February 2025 Retail Sales Index

Consumer Price Index

Today, the Ministry of Economy and Labour released the February 2025 Retail Sales Index publication (attached). 

February’s volume of retail sales index increased 0.6 per cent compared to last year.  In value terms, retail sales increased at an estimated $94.3 million.

Five of the seven sectors recorded year-over-year volume index increases in February 2025:  

  • Food Stores’ sales volume increased 2.3 per cent.

  • Motor Vehicle Stores’ sales volume rose 30.8 per cent.

  • The sales volume for Building Material Stores increased 0.2 per cent.

  • The sales volume at Apparel Stores increased 0.3 per cent.

  • Sales volume increased 1.7 per cent in the All Other Store Types sector (comprising stores selling household items, furniture, appliances, electronics, pharmaceuticals and tourist-related goods).

The following two sectors had decreases in sales volume compared to the previous year:

  • The sales volume for Liquor Stores fell 8.4 per cent.

  • Service Stations’ sales volume fell 2.4 per cent.

Selected overseas declarations decreased 0.8 per cent compared to February 2024.
