
The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports, the Hon. Owen Darrell, JP, has approved the latest round of Sport Investment Grants, reinforcing the Government’s commitment to fostering sports development in Bermuda. The funding, allocated through the Sport Investment Programme, supports National Sport Governing Bodies (NSGBs) and other organisations in their efforts to enhance participation and performance across various disciplines. This initiative aligns with the Department of Sport and Recreation’s broader strategy to promote sustainable and effective pathways for athletes and sports programmes.
Minister Darrell reaffirmed the Government’s dedication to transparency, accountability, and equity in sport funding, stating, “Investing in sport is an investment in our community, our youth, and our national identity. These grants provide vital support to our athletes and organisations, ensuring they have the resources needed to compete at their best. Sport has the power to unite, inspire, and instil discipline, and we remain committed to fostering a culture of excellence and opportunity for all.”
The grants, totalling over $116,000, have been distributed to seven organisations, each playing a crucial role in Bermuda’s sporting landscape. The Bermuda Netball Association has received $11,650 to support their All-Star event, celebrating top netball athletes on the island. The Bermuda Cricket Board has been allocated $45,000 to assist the Senior Men’s National Team in their preparations for the ICC Americas Final, including travel for the T-20 North American Cup. Additionally, the Bermuda National Athletic Association has been awarded $30,000 to facilitate charter flight support for athletes and officials representing Bermuda in swimming and athletics at the Carifta Games.
Further funding has been provided to the Bermuda Island Games Association, which received $10,048 to cover entry fees for all teams competing in the 2025 Orkney Games across multiple disciplines, including gymnastics, athletics, sailing, swimming, and football. The Kappa Alpha Psi – Kappa Classic, Bermuda’s largest youth football tournament, has been granted $10,000 to support event operations and prizes. CedarBridge Academy Football Team has secured $5,000 to enable their participation in the Dallas Cup, offering young athletes exposure to high-level competition and training. Lastly, the Pickleball Association Bermuda has received $5,000 to assist with expenses related to competing in the Cape Coral Open and APP Fort Lauderdale Open.
The Department of Sport and Recreation continues to work closely with sports bodies and community organisations to strengthen Bermuda’s sporting ecosystem. By investing in initiatives that support athlete development and participation, the Government is reinforcing the vital role of sport in fostering national pride, health, and community engagement.
