Minister of National Security Visits Recruit Camp to Encourage New Soldiers

Recruit Camp 2026

The Minister of National Security, the Hon. Michael Weeks, JP, MP,  visited Warwick Camp last week to meet with new recruits who are undertaking this year’s annual recruit camp hosted by the Royal Bermuda Regiment.

During the visit, Minister Weeks met with recruits and instructors, observed elements of the training, and expressed appreciation for the commitment demonstrated by all recruits.

The Minister also acknowledged the challenging conditions faced at the start of camp, noting that unusually cold temperatures and strong winds tested the resolve of the recruits, who were still required to camp outdoors and complete their training exercises despite the harsh weather.

Minister Weeks said: “What I witnessed today is a clear demonstration of determination, discipline, and pride. These young men and women have been asked to train in difficult weather conditions, and they rose to that challenge without hesitation.

“That speaks volumes about their character and about the standard of training being delivered here.”

He added, “The Royal Bermuda Regiment continues to play a vital role in Bermuda’s safety, resilience, and national security.

“The Government fully supports the Regiment and its mission, and it is encouraging to see new recruits stepping forward with a willingness to serve and to push themselves beyond their comfort zones.”

Minister Weeks further noted that the participation of visiting soldiers from the Turks and Caicos Regiment reflects the strong spirit of regional cooperation and shared commitment to strengthening emergency response capabilities across the Overseas Territories.

The annual recruit camp is considered a cornerstone of the Regiment’s training calendar, providing new soldiers with essential training and preparing them for the responsibilities they will assume in service to Bermuda.
