
Last Saturday (July 12), surrounded by love and laughter, Mrs. Bernice Winifred Delores Smith celebrated an extraordinary milestone, her 100th birthday.
Born on July 14, 1925, Mrs. Smith is St. David’s oldest living resident and a pillar of her community. Family, friends, and community members gathered at the Grotto Bay Beach Resort to mark this joyous occasion with heartfelt tributes and cherished memories.
The Premier, the Hon. David Burt, JP, MP, along with area MP and Deputy Speaker Lovitta Foggo, joined the festivities to honour Mrs. Smith’s remarkable journey and offer warm wishes on behalf of the Government of Bermuda.
The occasion also saw in attendance the City of Hamilton Town Crier, Edward Christopher, who added his signature flair to the birthday celebrations.
Mrs. Smith was embraced by her loving family, including her children, Errol Smith, Lana Jordan, Rudy Smith, and Alex Smith, along with 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, some of whom travelled from overseas to share in the joy of this landmark celebration.
Bernice Smith’s roots run deep, with her family helping to establish beloved institutions like St. Luke’s AME Church and St. David’s Primary School.
Today, she is still full of vitality. With a sharp mind and independent spirit, she enjoys her garden and continues to inspire all who know her. Her life is a living tapestry of devotion, strength, and warmth.
