Throne Speech and Mid Year Budget Household Mailers

The Government advised today that two household mailers providing the public with information of the most recent initiatives and programmes planned to assist the community will be landing in mailboxes across the island in the upcoming days and weeks.

The mailers share highlights of the Mid-Year Budget Review and outline pledges contained in November’s Throne Speech.

Back in September, the Premier and Minister of Finance, the Hon. David Burt, JP, MP, announced the Mid Year Budget Review, and unveiled a comprehensive and far reaching $25 million package of support aimed at addressing the island’s most critical social needs.

The Premier said at the time, “This Government upholds the promises that we make to the people of Bermuda. That is why I am proud to announce an investment package of $25 million that reflects our commitment to invest in tackling the social challenges facing Bermuda. This package will provide significant additional resources to tackle mental health throughout all segments of our community.

“We must confront the growing challenge of mental health, and this Government will ensure that mental health resources are more accessible, and support is available for those who need it, helping to reduce stigma and provide healing in our community. Tied to mental health, we will also expand substance abuse and intervention programmes. Our goal is simple: to ensure that Bermuda’s economic progress is felt by all Bermudians. We will not stop working until we achieve this vision. Whether by enhancing public services, reducing prices, improving public safety, or improving mental health services, we are committed to taking action now.”

And in last month’s Throne Speech, the Government introduced an ambitious legislative agenda with plans to introduce key legislation to address healthcare, education, youth, seniors, affordable housing, cost of living, the environment, and the economy.

The household mailers are just one of ways that the Government is seeking to engage with residents and provide them with key information about the numerous programmes and policies being implemented to support Bermudians. This is in addition to its digital, traditional and social media outreach.

In the interest of maintaining its commitment to paperless, the Government has also produced e-versions of the mailers, one of which can be found at www.gov.bm/budget. The mailer can also be accessed via the QR code attached.
