UK Export Finance members visit Bermuda

His Excellency the Governor, Andrew Murdoch CMG welcomed UK Export Finance (UKEF) to Bermuda on 17 - 19 November 2025. 

The UK government’s export credit agency, UKEF are a key partner in enabling global trade and investment offering a range of competitive financial products.  

They have supported projects in over 200 countries, from renewable energy developments in Africa and Asia to major infrastructure and transportation projects in the Caribbean, Middle East and Latin America.

In partnership with the Government of Bermuda, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) have been working with UKEF to identify and advance project opportunities in Bermuda on which to collaborate.  A strong relationship already exists with bilateral trade reaching £4.4 billion in the four quarters to Q2 2025, an increase of 11.2% increase or £447 million to the end of Q2 2024 and positioning Bermuda as the UK’s 50th largest trading partner.

While on island, the UKEF met with the Acting Premier and Minister of Housing & Municipalities, the Hon Zane DeSilva JP, MP; the Minister of Home Affairs the Hon Alexa Lightbourne JP, MP; the Minister of Public Works and Environment, the Hon Jache Adams JP, MP; the Minister of Economy and Labour the Hon. Jason Hayward JP MP; and the Minister of Justice, Sen. the Hon. Kim Wilkerson JP. 

Discussions with the Government Ministers focused on a range of ministerial priorities.

The visit reinforces the shared commitment to fostering sustainable economic growth and unlocking new opportunities for bilateral trade and investment. I look forward to building on this momentum and deepening our economic ties to the benefit of businesses and communities on both sides of the Atlantic.”

And a Government spokesperson said “The visit by UK Export Finance (UKEF) underscores the commitments made at the 2024 Joint Ministerial Council. Through the efforts of the London Office, the Government has strengthened collaboration with the UK Government - via UKEF and with the support of the FCDO and Government House, creating a strategic mechanism to explore innovative frameworks that advance economic cooperation between Bermuda and the United Kingdom as trusted partners.”

Engaging with Bermuda’s business community, Bermuda Business Development Agency supported introductions to the City of Hamilton Corporation; the Bermuda Bankers Association; Bermuda Economic Development Corporation, Bermuda Chamber of Commerce and the Bermuda Investor Community with discussions focussed on identifying potential areas of future collaboration including across sustainable infrastructure and the blue economy.

The visit follows a successful webinar with British Expertise International, which brought together over 80 UK and Overseas Territories businesses to explore partnerships across sectors such as engineering, technology, and consultancy underscoring the UK’s commitment to driving growth and innovation across the Overseas Territories.
