On 4 April 2025, the Out of School Programme (OSP): Spring Term through The Office of Youth Affairs (TOYA), hosted its highly anticipated Sport Daze event at Warren Simmons Field. Coordinated by the Programme Senior Supervisors, Ms. Triana James and Mrs. Valinica Jacobs-Willis in conjunction with community centre workers, the day featured healthy competitions, with trophies awarded for team spirit and sports performance.

The Eastern Zone Community Centre (EZCC) Bluebirds were awarded the Spirit Cup, recognised for their vibrant tent decorations, energetic cheers, and coordinated dancers.

The Sports Cup went to the Sammy Wilson Central Zone Community Centre (SWCZCC) Transformers, who earned points through strong performances in races including the egg and spoon, sack race, bean bag toss, running races, and relays.

The Western Zone Community Centre (WZCC), known on the day as the Carnival Cardinals, also took part with great enthusiasm.

Minister of Youth, Social Development and Seniors, the Hon. Tinee Furbert, JP, MP, who was in attendance and announced the winners, shared: “It was heartening to see the energy, unity, and joy displayed by all the centres today. Sport Daze continues to be a wonderful celebration of community spirit and the importance of staying active together.”

Parents dressed in their respective team colours, blue for Eastern Zone Community Centre (EZCC), yellow for Sammy Wilson Central Zone Community Centre (SWCZCC), and red for Western Zone Community Centre (CZCC) gathered under the parent tent to support their children. Seniors who attend activities at the community centres throughout the year were also invited to watch from a designated tent. There was also a teachers’ race and a parents’ race, which added to the lively atmosphere. The event brought together all ages for a day of fun, friendly competition, and community pride.

Events such as these ensure the work of the National Youth Policy (NYP), particularly within the objectives of Goal 5 continue to progress. For more information on the initiatives coming out of TOYA go to https://www.gov.bm/national-youth-policy.
