Ministry Highlights 16 Days of Activism
The Ministry of Youth, Social Development and Seniors joins the international community in marking the annual 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, a global campaign running from 25 November to 10 December that calls for united action to prevent and end violence in all its forms. Day 1 of this campaign, 25 November, is recognised worldwide as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
This year’s international theme, “UNITE to End Digital Violence against All Women and Girls,” draws attention to the increasing prevalence of online abuse. Cyberstalking, digital harassment, and the non-consensual sharing of images continue to threaten the safety, dignity, and well-being of women and girls across the world.
The Ministry acknowledges the significance of this year’s theme. Digital environments should be places of opportunity, not harm. As technology becomes more embedded in daily life, we must ensure that women and girls are protected from violence, whether it occurs online or offline. The Government of Bermuda remains committed to supporting survivors, promoting awareness, and encouraging responsible digital citizenship.
During these 16 Days of Activism, individuals across our community are encouraged to play an active role in prevention. Learning to recognise the signs of digital abuse, promoting respectful online behaviour, reporting harmful content, challenging discriminatory attitudes, and offering compassionate support to survivors are all meaningful steps each person can take to help reduce violence against women and girls.
As we observe these 16 Days, the Ministry urges all residents to stand together, reinforce a message of zero tolerance, and support the global call to UNITE. By working collectively, we can help eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls and build a safer, more equitable Bermuda for all.
