Ministry of Public Works & Environment Announces Swing Bridge Replacement Project Works to Begin in the Coming Weeks
The Ministry of Public Works & Environment is advising the public that road realignment works associated with the Swing Bridge Replacement Project are scheduled to begin in the next few weeks, with initial works expected to continue through the early phases of the bridge construction programme.
This phase of the project will introduce a series of temporary and evolving changes to traffic flow, access routes, and public transport arrangements in the St. George’s and St. David’s area.
These works are a necessary step in preparing for the replacement of the Swing Bridge and are intended to support safer, more efficient connectivity in the long term.
As part of the road realignment, the public can expect changes to familiar traffic patterns, adjustments to key routes, and the relocation of certain bus stops. These changes will be implemented in phases and will require residents, commuters, and businesses to adapt how they move through the area during the construction period.
The Ministry is focused on ensuring the public is well informed ahead of the changes.
A spokesman said: “We recognise that these works will have a direct impact on how people move through St. George’s and St. David’s. Our priority is to ensure the public understands what is changing, when it is happening, and how best to prepare. While there will be some disruption, this work is a critical step in delivering long-term improvements to access, safety, and connectivity.”
A phased communications rollout has begun to ensure the public is fully prepared in advance of the start of works. Detailed information, including route changes, traffic management plans, and public transport adjustments, will be shared in the coming weeks to allow for proper planning.
The campaign, “Connecting the Future of St. George’s,” will guide communications around the project, highlighting both the long-term benefits of the works and the short-term changes the public will experience during construction.
The Ministry is encouraging all members of the public to follow official Government and Ministry of Public Works and Environment channels for updates and to review information carefully as it is released.
