About the Public Service Scholarship Award

The Public Service Scholarship Award provides annual awards to Bermudians pursuing post-secondary academic qualifications in a discipline identified by Government Departments as meeting the future needs of the Department. This ensures a well-trained cadre of people to fill positions within the Public Service.  The scholarships are valued at a maximum of $20,000 per annum.

Who Can Apply

To be eligible for a Public Service Scholarship Award, applicants must:

  • Possess Bermuda status
  • Have had no less than five (5) years of schooling in Bermuda
  • Complete the education programme and training before the age of 65
  • Be enrolled in an accredited programme and learning institution ranked "Competitive" (or equivalent) or higher
  • Have completed an undergraduate freshman year, or be pursuing a graduate degree having met the requirements prescribed for admissions
  • Have satisfactorily fulfilled any obligations arising from any other awards received
  • For Public Officers: A minimum of 3 years working as a Public Officer (full-time, in a substantive post)


Important Obligation

Successful applicants must undertake employment in the public service on the completion of their training for a period of five (5) years.

Document Requirements

Applicants are required to submit the following documents as part of their application:

  • Acceptance letter (or a note indicating when it will be available, with the letter to be e‑mailed upon receipt or brought to the interview)
  • Letter from the college confirming tuition costs
  • Proof of Bermudian or PRC status
  • Academic letter of recommendation
  • Personal letter of recommendation
  • Most recent transcripts
  • Essay outlining career goals in relation to the advertised post (300‑word maximum, with the applicant's name and the applied‑for post at the top of the page)
  • Proof of five years of schooling in Bermuda
  • Valid Government-issued identification (e.g., Passport or Driver's Licence)
  • Medical Health Certificate issued within the last three months
